Wedding Hair FAQs

F.A.Q's

HOW SHOULD I HAVE MY HAIR PREPPED FOR THE TRIAL?

Please wash hair (shampoo/condition) the day before or morning of our trial. Please make sure hair is blown dry and NOT flat ironed. This will prevent flyaways, allow curls to hold well and help in creating the perfect wedding hair! Hair typically cooperates best when it's not squeaky clean, but this rule doesn't hold true with everyone, we can go over these details in a consultation.

DO YOU WORK WITH EXTENSIONS?

Yes! We love working with extensions for both down styles and up styles.  Extensions are a great way to give length and volume to all styles.  We can even help you select the right extensions if you don’t know where to start!

CAN I BRING MY WHOLE WEDDING PARTY TO THE TRIAL TO GET OPINIONS?

A. Too many opinions can be overwhelming so we advise selecting one or two people to attend the appointment. Choose people whose opinions you trust.

I JUST CAN'T DECIDE IF I WANT TO WEAR MY HAIR UP OR DOWN, CAN'T I DO BOTH?

A.  Yes you can! This is becoming a popular trend for weddings. A lot of women just feel best with their hair down but struggle with the thought that wearing it up may be more classic. There is no right answer, but there is a compromise. You can wear your hair down for the ceremony and then go into an up do for the party, or vice versa. There will be an additional cost with this option.

WILL MY HAIR STAY ALL NIGHT?

We have never heard a complaint from a past bride that their hair didn't last all night. We have lots of tricks to make sure your hair stays the best it possibly can with all the dancing, hugs, etc. We can't guarantee you won't get some flyaways or some dropped curls, but if you are really concerned, you can book your stylist for additional hours to ensure you have touchups throughout the evening.

Cezanne Classic Keratin Treatment

Cezanne Classic Keratin Smoothing Treatment reduces frizz and delivers smoother, stronger, healthier, more manageable and exquisitely beautiful hair that lasts for months.

What are the active ingredients?

Cezanne’s proprietary formulation is a combination of ingredients including Sericin, a component of silk. In silk, Sericin acts as cement between fibrous filaments. It acts in a similar way when Cezanne is applied to the hair, bonding to natural keratin and cementing itself between strands of keratin proteins. It also contains keratin and gyoxyloylcarbocysteine. Unlike Carbocysteine systems you may be familiar with, Cezanne doesn’t have the unpleasant smell. Cezanne contains Glycolic Acid, which is a well-known exfoliant and moisturizer for the skin.

The treatment uses a revolutionary low pH system with a similar acidity to lemon juice to open the cuticle and infuse the cortex with a proprietary blend of Sericin, keratin, botanical extracts and vitamins, replacing lost and damaged protein mass. When heat is applied during the flat iron process, the cuticle is closed and the proprietary blend of healthy ingredients is locked into the hair, protecting and smoothing the hair from the inside out.

How long will Cezanne Classic Keratin Treatment last?

The Classic Treatment will last 3-5 months on average. Similar to formaldehyde-based keratin smoothing treatments, the amount of time varies by client hair type, texture and maintenance routine.

Cezanne is non-toxic, naturally safe and effective. There is no vapor or fumes, so no need for masks, gloves or ventilation during the treatment—it's nature’s way of smoothing.

Our smoothing treatment is 100% formaldehyde-free. It’s also free from any other kinds of aldehydes and harmful toxins, for that matter, and it’s as long-lasting as the current top products.

It’s hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested, won’t irritate the scalp and won’t release any noxious gases. Cezanne actually strengthens the hair, using a revolutionary low pH technology that restores bonds that are broken or damaged during thermal, mechanical or high pH services.

Hair Extension FAQ’s

WHAT ARE HAIR EXTENSIONS?

Hair extensions are ethically sourced,100% human hair that allows you to add additional hair to your own natural hair. You can choose to add the extensions for length, volume, color, or all three to achieve your hair goal.

WILL HAIR EXTENSIONS DAMAGE MY HAIR?

Hair extensions do not damage your hair. Improper installation and/or neglect and untimely maintenance damages hair. The most important thing to consider when thinking about getting hair extensions is the maintenance requirement.

WHAT IS THE MAINTENANCE INVOLVED WITH HAIR EXTENSIONS?

Extension maintenance involves moving up all of the extensions to align with natural hair growth and removing the natural shedding that is held within the extensions. We loose between 60 - 100 strands of hair per day but when you have extensions some of that hair gets trapped inside the extension adherent. Every 2 - 3 maintenance appointments, adjustments will also need to be made to the placement of the extensions. Maintenance appointments are recommended every 6 - 8 weeks. When extensions are properly maintained your natural hair will grow healthy and long.

WHAT TYPE OF HAIR EXTENSIONS DO YOU OFFER?

Tape-ins

Tape-ins are a medium weight extension that can be customized for your hair needs. They are applied to small section of your hair using a light weight non damaging tape adhesive. They lay very flat to the head and have a quick application time. The hair used for this method will last approximately 8 months with proper home care and maintenance.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY HAIR EXTENSIONS AT HOME?

Professional grade products are an absolute must as well as avoid anything protein or keratin based. You can shampoo and style your extensions as you would your own hair. You will need to adjust your conditioner and/or oil routine to completely avoid root application to avoid slippage. Any heat styling tools you currently use are completely fine to use on your new hair.

CAN I COLOR MY HAIR WITH HAIR EXTENSIONS IN?

Yes! Any hair coloring will be done to your extensions prior to installation. Extensions also do a lot of color work for you, meaning you can seriously enhance the color you already have or add in a completely new color using no chemicals. Say hello to your bleach free balayage!

HOW LONG DO EXTENSIONS TAKE TO INSTALL?

This depends on the desired look and method. It can take as little as one hour or up to 5 hours. This is all determined in a comprehensive consultation.

HOW MUCH TO HAIR EXTENSIONS COST?

The total cost of your first appointment will include the purchase of the extension hair and the hourly service rate of $268. There are so many options and customization options with hair extensions so the best way to determine the cost is through a complimentary consultation where all options will be discussed.

Mermaid Hair Care

The mermaid, unicorn, galaxy, and oil slick trends are so hot and here to stay! Our stylist Tess is here to help you get the most out of your new fashion mane!

  1. Pick the brand that works best for you. I like to use a variety of fashion color brands: manic panic, pravana, pulp riot, aveda, wella, lime crime… different brands have different results and work better for different styles and hair types. Talk with your stylist about what you have used in the past and what you liked/disliked, or if this is your first time, talk to them about what you're looking for and they will assess your hair’s porosity and condition and choose the proper brand for you.

  2. Bleach is not a villain. Know that your first time you will have to strip the pigment from the areas of your hair you wish to unicorn up! The hair must be almost completely white, yes, this requires a lightener(bleach). Think about markers on paper, if you colored with a blue marker on brown paper, would you see blue? How about on white paper? Same goes for your fashion colors: if your natural color is dark and you want to go silver, you may have to be another color like blue or darker blonde for a couple sessions until you can get the desired result, discuss your options with your stylist and know they are going to do what's best for your hair’s health! Also, when you decide you want to switch up your fashion colors from say, red to blue… keep in mind this is a color correction situation and there may be a few sessions where you have to be purple in between until you can get to blue safely (and with your hair in tact!) and plan accordingly.

  3. Pastels are tricky and temporary! Silver, seafoam, peach, opal… all take a LOT of lightening, toning and upkeep. Once your stylist gets you to the desired hue, it is recommended that you take care to wash your hair less, and when you do use a violet shampoo to keep the yellow/green tones away, and come in for a refresh gloss every 2-3 weeks. If your stylist can, she will give you a little of your pigment to mix in with your conditioner and help your pastel last a little longer between glosses.

  4. Dry shampoo is your friend! All fashion colors are semi or demi permanent, not permanent. This means they will wash almost completely out eventually. I recommend washing your hair as little as possible. Stretch it to 1x per week ideally. This will get you the most vibrant color as long as possible and get you the most bang for your buck since good mermaid hair is not cheap or a quick process.

Follow these tips and listen to your stylist for recommendations and you too can be a magical unicorn and keep your hair looking fresh, vibrant and fun until you're ready for your next appointment!

Ombre Hair Lightening

This is a technique wherein selected strands of hair are lightened from the tips up through the middle sections hair. The word Ombre specifically refers to the undetectable gradation of color from light to darker. Both the shades of blondes and browns as well as the amount of hair lightened with Ombre is customized to each clients liking.

Aside from being super fun to wear, sexy and totally versatile, Ombre lightening can be kept up as frequently as you desire. You can have your Ombre re-done every six weeks or never again and it will always be on point!

Balayage

If you thought the word balayage was French for some fancy dance move, you're not alone. Here are the answers to some common questions about it. The highlights (no pun intended):

  1. It doesn't mean painting. Balayage literally translates to "sweeping." When done correctly, the colorist takes a small section of hair and sweeps the color onto the top. Then, he or she may use a paddle to apply more color toward the bottom. This method of lightening the ends gives the colorist more control—and creates the effortless sun-kissed highlights everyone wants this time of year.

  2. It's not just for blondes. Balayage can be used on brunette and redhead clients for multidimensional color.

  3. It works on gray hair. Balayage is a smart solution for gray hair because it allows the colorist to specifically target gray strands without touching the scalp. And, because you don't need to do a single process to cancel out a few grays, it's easier and more natural on your hair overall.

  4. You should cut, then color. In most salons, women get their hair colored, cut, and blow-dried by a stylist. But by booking a trim beforehand, your colorist can work specifically to the cut, which minimizes the risk of chopping off the pretty, lighter ends (and ruining the effect).

  5. You don’t need to wash your hair beforehand. If you're adding highlights with balayage, clients can come with oily hair to protect the scalp. If you're getting a single process, there is no need to shampoo before, just make sure your hair isn’t loaded up with products which could interfere with the color coverage.
